National Theatre's

New Views Playwrighting Programme

During Kimberleigh's time at National Theatre, Kimberleigh worked with young people and schools. She develop her career in learning and participation management, coordinating creative learning opportunities for all by empowering & inspiring communities across the world to participate, educate and collaborate in making groundbreaking new work.

Kimberleigh gained valuable experience of working within the education and culture landscape, learning how schools and teachers typically engage with cultural providers. She worked on large scale programmes of events as part of a small creative team.

In light of the 2020 pandemic, Kimberleigh worked from home coordinating projects digitally, with first-hand experience liaising with schools, teachers and administrative personnel. The demand for New Views grew, which resulted in Kimberleigh stepping up towards coordinating on a higher level. Throughout the pandemic, she worked to inspired active theatre and creative engagement for over 300 secondary schools across the UK, with a focus on high priority young people.

New View's Mission

New Views is the National Theatre’s playwriting programme for students aged 14 – 19, participating students write a 30-minute play on a theme of their choosing.

New Views is rooted in connection, coming together and exploring different points of view through writing. In previous years, these aims have been achieved through teachers coming together at the National Theatre for workshops and training, with playwrights visiting schools up and down the country to work directly with young people and through students coming to the theatre and seeing professional plays.
